SitemapThe 21st Century has brought us many advances. The progress industry has been through changed everything around it and the environment is suffering its effects.
The air is the means of transportation - and consequently, the means by which microorganisms get spread, more commonly that ever before. It's pretty easy for an epidemic to get spread through the air and its scary, if we take into account what happened with the Ebola virus some years ago. The whole world was afraid, even countries at the other side of the globe were praying for the virus not to get to their territory.
Directly opposite to what many people think, it is not only the "outside" that offers danger to our overall health. We are not safe even inside our homes. Believe it or not, a study developed by environment researchers found that the air inside our homes is dirtier than the air we breathe when we are walking in the street.
What are we exposed to?
We are exposed to a lot of danger when we breathe. Asthmatic people suffer even more than people who don't have any respiratory disorders. Little children, especially newborn babies, and old people are the most predisposed to suffer respiratory disorders due to the bad condition of the air we breathe.
It's not that hundreds of years ago, the air was safe. No, it was not. Allergens have always existed. But progress has brought us industries with their high chimneys spreading smoke, a dark and heavy smoke, into the air. We have cars that also spread smoke. These simply create high levels of pollution.
Besides the pollution, we also have the allergens in the air. And the majority of these are the ones responsible for the asthma crisis today. The smoke of a cigarette, the pollen from flowers and the thousands of different smells mixed together may lead a delicate respiratory system into a serious crisis.
In addition to that, bacteria and viruses as well as other types of microorganisms are constant threats. Due to these invisible creatures, people get pneumonia and tuberculosis, diseases that may lead to death if not treated properly.
How do we protect our loved ones?
Unfortunately, there aren't many things we can do in order to protect our family or our environment at work. We cant prevent pollution, allergens or microorganisms from existing in the air that we breathe and we cannot stop breathing either.
The same hand that pollutes tries to clean. Industries have developed some air purifiers in order to decrease the effects of the polluted air we breathe.
Air purifiers simply try to take from the air the allergens and some of the pollution. It's something we can do to decrease the effects on our bodies. It is certainly necessary if we have new babies at home.
Techniques used
There are several techniques available for people who want to create a safe - or less dangerous - indoor environment with respect to the air.
Some air purifiers use adsorbent techniques and electrostatic charges and ionizers. Some others include a germicidal UV light and the emission of ions into the air in order to react with the agents that may cause health problems and reduce or eliminate them. However, there isn't an air purifier sold for homes able to create indoor conditions as clean as those found in hospitals.
We cannot control what we breathe when we are in the street, but we can do something to avoid such side effects when we are at home.
SitemapSouthend United replaced Colchester at the top of League One with a routine win over struggling Rotherham United on Friday night. Big hitters will have relished the 1/2 on offer for the Shrimpers and they didnt disappoint with goals from Shaun Goater and Fredy Eastwood.
Former leaders Colchester United lost ground and saw their club record run of 10 successive victories end as they were beaten at Huddersfield Town. A deflected shot from Jon Worthington after 14 minutes and a 68 minute goal for David Graham sealed victory for the 6/4 promotion chasing Terriers.
Swansea City earned their second win in a row at Nottingham Forest to keep the pressure on the automatic promotion places. The Swans recent poor form meant they were as large as 2/1 but goals from Adrian Forbes and Lee Trundle cancelled out Nathan Tysons opening goal for Forest.
Brentford moved up to fourth place by recording a fourth successive win at the expense of Bristol City. Lloyd Owusus goal 12 minutes from time earned victory at 9/5 for the Bees.
Both Southend United at 11/4 and Cochester United are 11/4 joint favourites to win League One outright. Brentford, who have games in hand over both Colchester and Swansea City are available at 7/2 while returning to form Swansea are 11/2 outsiders.
Chesterfield saw their run of 10 matches unbeaten end on Friday night against Hartlepool United who boosted their own chances of survival. Substitute Matty Robson netted the decisive goal after 65 minutes to earn a welcome 6/4 and see the Monkey Hangers climb to seventeenth in the table.
A last minute equaliser from Sean OHanlon ensured relegation strugglers Swindon Town remained unbeaten in three matches. Dean Windass looked to have granted Bradford City a 20/21 win with a goal 11 minutes from time until OHanlon nodded in at the death.
Bottom club MK Dons gave themselves a fighting chance of survival with a 3-0 win over Blackpool. Two goals from Izale McLeod and former Tangerines frontman Scott Taylor gave the 6/4 Dons a vital three points.
SitemapFlorida real estate is definitely worth a look if sun and fun is your ticket. Florida real estate, even close to the beach, is a very good deal.
Florida
Florida is a well-known haven for people living through winter storms in the northeast. Sun and warm water are an obviously attraction, but there is much more to Florida. Orlando seems to be one giant theme park with Disney World, while Miami offers entertainment of a distinct adult variety with a legendary nightlife. Throw in the Florida Keys, tons of college and professional sports teams, the Kennedy Space Center and you have a state with a lot to do besides loaf on the beach. Then again, loafing on the beach should never be denigrated!
Miami
Miami is a city that really needs no introduction. With Cuban influences, the city is an explosion of styles, colors and fun loving people. Palm trees are plentiful as are beaches, bars, outdoor cafes and walking streets. When you need a break from the beach, Miami hosts professional sports teams in baseball, basketball, hockey and football. The real key to the area, however, is simply the festive atmosphere and people. Nearly half of the population is Hispanic with a heavy influence appearing throughout the city. Every day is a party in Miami.
Orlando
If Orlando isnt the capital of theme parks, I feel sorry for the place that is. Orlando is home to no less than Disney World, Universal Studios and Sea World. The theme parks are actually located on the edge of the city, which makes Orlando proper a bit bland. Humidity can be a bit of a bear during the summers, but the winter is incredibly nice.
Tampa
Tampa is an underrated city in my opinion. The chief criticisms seem to be it is overly modern and a bit boring. In fact, it is just the opposite. Tampa has a funky cultural feel, particularly in Ybor City where multiple cultures clash in free wheeling fun and you can get a Cuban cigar hand-rolled by a Cuban artist. Museums, art galleries and theme parks abound. The beaches of Clearwater are white, clean and a good place to roast in the sun.
Florida Real Estate
Florida real estate is very reasonably priced considering much of it is so close to an ocean or lake. The average home price in Orlando will run you just above $300,000, roughly the same amount as Tampa. In Miami, prices vary wildly depending on the part of the city you are looking in, but you can expect price ranges from $250,000 to $800,000.
If you want to get in on Florida real estate, now may be an ideal time. For 2005, property in Florida appreciated at a rate of nearly 25 percent!
SitemapCarlisle United overtook Wycombe at the top of League Two with an emphatic 5-0 demolition of Chester City. The Cumbrians were 4/6 before kick-off and Adam Murray set Carlisle on the way with a goal after 14 minutes. Goals from Michael Bridges, Chris Lusmdon, Karl Hawley and Glenn Murray ensured Paul Simpsons side top the division on goal difference.
Wycombe Wanderers slipped up in North Wales, losing 2-0 at Wrexham. Dennis Lawrence and Sam Williams netted the goals in the opening 15 minutes to secure victory at odds of 6/4.
Grimsby kept their place in the automatic promotion spots with a 1-0 win at Notts County. The Mariners were available at 9/5 after a run of four matches without victory but Michael Reddys goal five minutes before half-time was enough.
All three sides are level on 54 points with Wycombe Wanderers favourites to win the division at 11/4, Carlisle United at 11/2 and Grimsby Town at 11/2.
Northampton have been instilled as second favourites to win League Two outright at 3/1 after a 2-0 win over relegation strugglers Rushden took them to within one point of the top three. The Cobbers were 8/15 favourites and goals from David Hunt and Scott McGleish secured the points.
Leyton Orient lost to Torquay and a floodlight failure was not enough to get the match abandoned, with the match delayed for 40 minutes. The Seagulls, 15/8 before kick-off, scored through Martin Phillips and Tony Bedeau and hung on to win as the other bottom three teams in the division all lost.
At the bottom of the table, Stockports five match unbeaten run ended as they were defeated 3-2 at home to Lincoln. The Imps, 17/10 before kick-off, found themselves 3-1 up before Liam Dickinsons goal for Stockport seven minutes from time set up a tense finale.
